GIANT OPENS 100th BEER & WINE EATERY IN PENNSYLVANIA

Carlisle, PA, August 6, 2019 – GIANT Food Stores celebrated the grand opening of its 100th Beer & Wine Eatery in Pennsylvania today at its Lebanon store located at 835 Bowman Street. A key element of the company’s growth strategy, GIANT began selling beer in the Commonwealth in 2011 and opened its first Beer & Wine Eatery in 2016.

GIANT Food Stores President Nicholas Bertram, Pennsylvania State Representative Francis Ryan and Lebanon Store Manager Eric Ludwig marked the opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. In honor of the 100th Beer & Wine Eatery, GIANT will also presented a $500 donation to Lebanon County Christian Ministries.

“The opening our 100th Beer & Wine Eatery is an exciting milestone for GIANT as we continue to expand our unique offerings for our customers,” said Manuel Haro, vice president of strategy, GIANT Food Stores. “Our customers are at the heart of all we do – from the local products we carry to the services we provide – no decision is made without them in mind. Since the opening of our very first Beer & Wine Eatery, we’ve received positive feedback, with customers telling us how much they love the convenience of being able to pick up beer and wine at our stores and we look forward to introducing this innovative concept to additional locations across the Commonwealth.”

For nearly the past decade, GIANT has been active in reforming Pennsylvania law with regards to the sale of both beer and wine in grocery stores. GIANT was granted a restaurant liquor license from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board and its Indiana MARTIN’S Food Markets location became the first Pennsylvania store in the chain to sell beer to its customers in 2011. Act 39 of 2016 then allowed for the private sector sale of wine in grocery stores, with the Mechanicsburg GIANT located at 6560 Carlisle Pike the first GIANT store to sell wine. GIANT has continued to obtain restaurant licenses from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board where available and where it makes strategic sense to introduce its Beer & Wine Eatery concept to customers.

Lebanon customers will find hundreds of domestic, imported and craft beers coupled with an immense wine selection in the Beer & Wine Eatery. Customers currently have a “mix-a-six” option where they can create their own six-packs from a variety of craft beers. Customers can also choose from eat-in and take-out selections offered, including sandwiches, wraps, subs, and salads.

Added Ludwig, “With more than 300 varieties of local and national brands available, our associates are ready to assist customers in making their selections for summer barbecues, celebratory occasions or to help them locate a new favorite beer or wine.”

The new eatery seats 30 and is open Monday – Saturday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday. GIANT enforces a 100% proof-of-age policy for both beer and wine sales. To protect the community, associates will ask for proper identification – a valid driver’s license, passport or military identification card – from any customer seeking to purchase alcohol, regardless of age.

With this grand opening, a total of 100 GIANT Food Stores and MARTIN’S Food Markets sell both beer and wine in Pennsylvania.
