GIANT Food Stores investment brings expanded, local farm fresh produce to families

Carlisle, PA (April 5, 2019) – This morning, along with customers, associates, and community members, GIANT Food Stores celebrated the grand opening of its five newest MARTIN’S Food Markets locations.

The stores, which are former Shop ‘n Save locations GIANT acquired earlier this year, are located at:

  • 22401 Jefferson Blvd., Smithsburg, Md.
  • 500 North Antrim Way, Greencastle, Pa.
  • 409 North McNeil Road, Berryville, Va.
  • 147 Roaring Lion Drive, Hedgesville, W. Va.
  • 1317 Old Courthouse Square, Martinsburg, W. Va.
“We are making good on our investment in these great communities, and we’re excited to add these new MARTIN’S locations to our network of more than 170 stores,” said Nicholas Bertram, president, GIANT Food Stores. “I am also proud to welcome to our family over eighty percent of the Shop ‘n Save associates from the five stores we acquired.”

An extensive remodel was conducted in each store to make way for an expanded variety and local assortment of products that resonate with families, such as an expanded farm fresh produce department with more than 300 fresh produce items. In addition, the stores also feature MARTIN’S signature fresh departments including a full-service deli with a selection of grab and go meals, sandwiches, wraps, subs and salads made on site; a meat and seafood department offering Choice and Angus meats, fresh fish, and a variety of local offerings; a decadent full-service bakery with artisan breads, cakes, donuts, and other dessert favorites; and a floral department with fresh-cut flowers and stunning arrangements that can add a celebratory touch to special occasions.

Added Bertram, “For many years we have been listening closely to our new neighbors in the region and they shared their appreciation for the value and quality of the MARTIN’S brand. So for many, there’s no more driving out of the way to find us – we’re right in their neighborhood now with many of the same caring associates they know and will recognize.”

Customers can sign up for a MARTIN’S BonusCard, which offers access to weekly promotions and sales, coupons, rewards – and a free ham. Every time customers shop using their BonusCard through April 21, they can earn extra rewards points towards a free ham. The ham certificate can be redeemed from April 12 through April 21 at any MARTIN’S or GIANT Food Store location. A current tally of a customer’s extra rewards points can be found at the bottom of their receipt when they shop using a BonusCard.

GIANT also extended its commitment to each community through its philanthropic platform, Living Here, Giving Here. As part of today’s announcement, the company donated $20,000 to local food pantries, schools, police, and other emergency responders. GIANT will also ensure each new store is assigned a feeding agency partner to receive weekly food donations through the company's food rescue program, including its acclaimed “Meat the Needs” initiative.

The grand opening of these five MARTIN’S locations follows a series of strategic investments that the company has recently made to its store fleet and family of brands within Pennsylvania, including the recent opening of the first GIANT Heirloom Market in Philadelphia, where three additional locations are planned to open this year; the grand opening of its new GIANT DIRECT e-commerce hub in the city of Lancaster and new stores opening this year in the East Stroudsburg and Walnutport communities.
