Staying Hydrated

During the hot summer months, it’s important to drink extra fluids in order to avoid dehydration. Encourage children and the elderly to take in adequate fluids because they are often unaware of thirst.

Water is the best source of fluid for most people. It contains no calories and quenches thirst.

Juices and other sweetened beverages taste good, but they also add calories that can lead to weight gain. If you want flavor without calories, try tea, coffee or caffeine-free herbal teas without added sugar. Plain seltzer or iced water with a slice of lemon are also refreshing.

For athletes and people working in hot conditions where sweat losses can lead to dehydration, sports drinks are beneficial for replacing fluid and electrolytes. These beverages contain some sugars, which can be useful for those working hard and burning the extra calories.

Stay hydrated and save money all summer long with GIANT brand water, sports drinks and other beverages. They have all the quality of the national brands, at a lower price every day!
