» About the Tour

Kid Healthy Ideas™ is a field trip that reinforces the nutrition and healthy living curricula taught in schools. At your local GIANT Food Store, children will have a fun, hands-on experience in a real life environment that’s filled with healthy ideas. Each stop features another healthy idea designed just for kids!

Kid Healthy Ideas™ is FREE and helps children in grades Pre-K - 6 develop and enhance skills in:

          • - Healthy living and nutrition
          • - Good oral healthcare practices
          • - Critical thinking
Trained tour leaders modify the field trips to be grade appropriate. The field trips are 60-90 minutes in length and are limited to 30 participants per tour – although this number may vary by location. We recommend a minimum of 1 adult chaperone to every 8 students.
» Educational Content

Trained tour leaders modify the field trips to be grade appropriate.

For Primary Students: (Pre-K - 2nd)
Simple concepts demonstrated through hands-on experiences on this field trip promote healthy behaviors throughout the day. The field trip teaches fundamental concepts about exercise, good oral health care, breakfast, balanced meals and more.

For Intermediate Students: (3rd - 6th)
Field trips emphasize higher-level thinking and decision-making related to healthy living. Lessons include specifics on healthy choices, interpreting food labels, identifying nutrients, fats and portion sizes. These are demonstrated through hands-on exercises relevant to the grocery environment.

Health and Beauty Care in front of Oral Care It’s easy and fun to wake up and start each day right!

Organic Cereal Section Eating a nutritious breakfast gives us the energy we need to last the entire morning!
• Organic cereal is food that has been grown without the use of artificial fertilizers and pesticides

Bottled Water Section Drinking enough water everyday keeps us healthy and hydrated.

Produce Section Fresh fruit and vegetables are a great way to get the vitamins and mineral sour bodies need Fruit and Veggies – More Matters!
• Every color of fruit and vegetables does something different for our bodies

Deli Department Eating a balanced and healthy lunch can provide all the nutrition we need to last us to dinner!

Dairy Department 3-A-Day - Eating and drinking at least 3 servings of dairy is what gives our bodies strong bones and teeth!
• Dairy contains Calcium, which is an important nutrient that helps us grow

Bakery The bakery provides many different kinds of healthy food from the grain section of MyPyramid!
• When we eat grains, we should try to eat whole grains, which contain many health benefits
• Remember - Sugar should be eaten in moderation

Seafood and/or
Meat Department
Protein is very important to help build muscles!
• Meat and seafood give us zinc, iron, and protein – healthy nutrients our bodies need
• We should have 2-3 servings of protein every day
