Water- How much water should I drink a day?

According to the American Dietetic Association (www.eatright.org), the average adult loses about 10 cups of water daily. To maintain your body’s fluid balance, you need to replace this water loss each day. Certain factors, such as activity level, temperature of surroundings or medical conditions, may increase or decrease your need for fluids.

Sound like a lot? Here are some tips to help you reach your goal:

  • Take water breaks throughout the day
  • Take a drink every time you walk past a water fountain
  • Keep in mind that the water in foods and beverages counts! Many foods have a high water content. For example:
    - Lettuce is 95% water
    - Watermelon is 92% water
    - Milk is 89% water
