Pharmacies and banks to remain open during conversion process

Richmond, VA  MARTIN'S Food Markets today announced it will begin the conversion of the 25 Ukrop's Super Markets on Monday, April 5. During the conversion process, four to five stores at a time will temporarily close for one week, but pharmacies and banks will remain open for customer convenience. The six-phase staggered approach is expected to be completed on May 17.

"Over the next several weeks, we are remodeling and upgrading the former Ukrop's stores in order to provide shoppers with a modern and convenient shopping experience," said Jim Scanlon, regional vice president. "We are confident customers will be excited to see what we have done to offer them more choice and greater value as the stores re-open."

In February, MARTIN'S completed the sale of 25 Ukrop's Super Markets in the Greater Richmond and Williamsburg markets. The company is making a multi-million dollar investment for each store which will be spent on capital upgrades including new decor, improved lighting and refrigeration, and new technology. The extent of the remodels and addition of new amenities vary by store.
