GIANT FOOD STORES DONATES $9,000 TO CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA FOOD BANK
Grocer celebrating 90 years of living and giving in the local communities they serve
Carlisle, PA – GIANT Food Stores is celebrating its 90th anniversary by expanding the company’s “Living Here, Giving Here” community support program with 90 Days of Giving to local food bank partners and throughout the communities they serve. GIANT recently recognized the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank with a special $9,000 donation to provide hunger relief throughout the community.
“Since GIANT was founded in 1923, our commitment to being a good neighbor has been unwavering,” said Rick Herring, president. “We are proud to be a leader in the fight against hunger, raising millions of dollars and donating thousands of pounds of food for hunger relief throughout our 90 year history. No one in the communities we serve should go hungry, and we will continue to support Central Pennsylvania Food Bank on future efforts to eradicate hunger.”
Since 2005, GIANT has donated more than $150 million in combined cash and product donations throughout the markets they serve, focused on hunger relief efforts, improving the quality of life for children and building healthier communities.
“GIANT Food Stores’ support of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, and commitment to fight hunger in their communities, is exceptional,” stated Joe Arthur, Central Pennsylvania Food Bank executive director. “This donation alone will provide more than 50,000 meals to individuals in central PA who are struggling to put food on their tables. This gift, in addition to the tremendous donation of food products that GIANT generously contributes on a weekly basis, will truly make a positive impact on lives in our neighborhoods.”
Also as part of GIANT’s 90 Days of Giving, each of the company’s 200 stores is conducting at least one random act of kindness. These acts, which will focus on efforts to help eradicate hunger or improve the lives of children, will vary by community, so be on the lookout for GIANT associates in special 90th anniversary t-shirts around local communities through early fall.
