Launches annual "Feeding Our Neighbors Everyday" campaign

Carlisle, PA. (November 3, 2016) - GIANT Food Stores' "Feeding Our Neighbors Everyday" holiday campaign today supported Central Pennsylvania Food Bank's annual turkey drive with 1,000 turkeys and $5,000 to the food bank to use in providing additional holiday meals.

"Our annual Feeding Our Neighbors Everyday campaign brings help where our communities need it most - to our local food banks," said Tom Lenkevich, GIANT president. "Both the turkeys and funds will help the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank ensure vulnerable families can enjoy a traditional meal this Thanksgiving."

According to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, the donation of 1,000 turkeys can help feed nearly 8,000 people.

"GIANT represents the highest level of partnership with the food bank," said Joe Arthur, executive director, Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. "Over the years their donation of time, talent and treasure has enabled the food bank to adopt innovative strategies, like the 'Meat the Needs' program, serve more of our neighbors in need through donation of both food and funds and have committed their employees to volunteer, true servant leaders. Today, we are thankful for the donation of turkeys to begin our 2016 turkey drive!"

Earlier this year, the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank also received a three-year $195,000 total grant from Our Family Foundation by GIANT as part of the grocer's new Fighting Child Hunger initiative to increase access to healthy, nutritious food for children in need of healthier diets. As a result of the grant, the food bank was able to expand its school breakfast program in Lancaster County.

As part of GIANT'S Feeding Our Neighbors holiday campaign, more than $90,000 in turkeys and cash will be donated to regional food banks and local hunger organizations throughout three states.

In addition to Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, Philabundance, FeedMore – Central Virginia Food Bank, Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley, Greater Berks Food Bank, Maryland Food Bank – Western Branch and Lancaster County Council of Churches and several community organizations will receive donations as part of the holiday campaign.
