GIANT adds 100 jobs to the community

Carlisle, PA. (October 31, 2016) - GIANT Food Stores today announced that the doors of its brand new store located at 4930 Edgemont Ave., Brookhaven, PA will open for business on Friday, Nov. 11 at 8:00 a.m. The store replaces the grocer’s current Brookhaven store located at 4801 Edgemont Ave., which will close for business on Nov. 10 at 5 p.m.

Approximately 100 additional full and part time jobs have been created bringing the total number of Brookhaven associates to 220, including associates from the current store.

Mark Gregor, a 25-year grocery veteran, has been appointed store manager of the new 67,000 square foot GIANT, which will operate from 6 a.m. to midnight seven days a week. Gregor recently served as store manager of the GIANT in Plymouth Meeting.

"GIANT has been a proud member of the Brookhaven community for more than 29 years and we're excited to offer our customers a dramatically improved shopping experience," said Gregor. "With the introduction of amenities such as an in-store pharmacy, beer and wine offerings, upgraded departments for easier shopping, and enhanced product selection including an increased focus on organics, our customers will find new ways to save time, save money and eat well while shopping at the Brookhaven store."

Convenient in-store pharmacy added

Brookhaven customers will now have the convenience of an in-store pharmacy, with pharmacists available seven days a week to fill prescriptions and offer expert advice. As partners in good health, GIANT pharmacists can administer vaccines, suggest the right over-the-counter medications and help manage prescriptions. GIANT'S pharmacy also accepts most major insurance plans, can fill pet prescriptions, and offers low-cost generic and name brand prescriptions.

One-stop shopping in an easy-to-shop store layout

Customers who walk through the doors of the store will find an easy-to-shop experience that helps customers save money, save time and eat well:

  • Customers will experience a more open layout of the store's fresh departments, including an expanded market fresh produce department, with locally-grown and organic fruits and vegetables, and a salad bar. Customers will find other signature fresh departments including a full service meat and seafood department plus the bakery department which are showcased in the store’s new fresh hall.
  • The Beer Garden and Eatery offers a large selection of craft, domestic and imported beer as well as a full selection of fine wine. In addition, convenient eat-in and take-out options include salads, freshly prepared sushi, subs, sandwiches, and wraps.

Commitment to healthy living and eating well

Emphasizing GIANT'S ongoing commitment to helping customers eat well, a broad assortment of organic and free-from products is featured in the dedicated section called Nature's Promise Marketplace. Nature's Promise is GIANT's exclusive private label line for organic and "free from" products. Customers will find 2,500 frozen, dairy, grocery and special diet selections, including a wider assortment of frozen organic and free-from products.

Caring for the Environment

With the new Brookhaven store, GIANT is pursuing LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The store has been constructed with innovative building technologies to reduce energy consumption and the environmental impact of operations. LED lighting will be used in many areas of the store, significantly reducing energy needs. Warm concrete floors have replaced the traditional tile, reducing the amount of cleaning solutions normally utilized.
